Divorce Mediation Process and Resolution
Divorce mediation is sometimes required by the courts for matters involving child custody and in a divorce decree. When the parties are unable to reach an agreement on child custody and parenting time, a mediator may need to assist with resolving disputes between the parties. Elizabeth Hill, of The Hill Law Firm, P.C. in Overland Park, facilitates a discussion of child custody and parenting time issues as a neutral mediator. With over 30 years of legal experience in family law, Elizabeth Hill is a professional divorce mediator. Combined, her skills and experience make her highly qualified to mediate even the most complex of situations.
Divorce Mediation Process
The process of divorce mediation requires a neutral third party, called a Mediator, to meet with the involved parties in an attempt to resolve their disputes and facilitate a settlement agreement. All matters pertaining to mediation are confidential during the settlement negotiations. Mediation is not a mandatory requirement of the court, nor are the parties obligated to reach a settlement agreement.
Mediators are chosen based on their specific expertise or knowledge of the law. In some cases, a divorcing couple may choose to hire a mediator in an effort to discuss and resolve their divorce issues out of court, with or without the involvement of an attorney. This enables the couple, not the court, to control the outcome of their divorce settlement.
